Hello all. I have made it back to Cali once again for some more collaborations. This time I am working on a track that my fellow Dub Defender, Doctor Echo sent me. The bass and the drums were originally done quite a few years ago and he sent it to me to see what I could do to enhance it. As a producer/engineer it is interesting to sift through your files sometimes and see what you just never finished. Luckily, Echo has sent me some tracks that are going to be a lot of fun for me to add sounds to. Justin Dehart and Tyler Pope (lcd soundsystem/chk chk chk) laid down the track that I am working on and I decided to call up some friends of mine who are in a really great hip hop group called Who Cares to see what they could do on the track. The result so far has been awesome. We should be done with the song very soon and once it is done I will post it up!!!Who Cares is doing some really cool stuff at the moment too. They are working on a track with Egyptian Lover which sounds amazing and should be released within in the next few months. Check out their myspace when you get a chance.
It is so funny, at the moment I have been listening to a lot of music from 79 to 83. I guess there are those stages that you go through musically when you have a craving for specific sounds. Right now Barrington Levy is getting a lot of ear time and the same goes for Johnny Osbourne. Rub a Dub style.
Speaking of which, if you didn't check out the RAS Trent sketch that Andy Samburg did on SNL, you are missing out.
Green Owl just posted the new website and it looks really good. The web address is www.greenowl.com. Check out the whole site, there are some pretty interesting things to check out, including an unreleased Dub Defender track.
I hope everyone is doing well and I will keep everyone up to date as much as possible with what I am up to musically.
Thanks,
Steven Jess Borth II
