Dub Defender and Who Cares Collaboration

Hello all. I have made it back to Cali once again for some more collaborations. This time I am working on a track that my fellow Dub Defender, Doctor Echo sent me. The bass and the drums were originally done quite a few years ago and he sent it to me to see what I could do to enhance it. As a producer/engineer it is interesting to sift through your files sometimes and see what you just never finished. Luckily, Echo has sent me some tracks that are going to be a lot of fun for me to add sounds to. Justin Dehart and Tyler Pope (lcd soundsystem/chk chk chk) laid down the track that I am working on and I decided to call up some friends of mine who are in a really great hip hop group called Who Cares to see what they could do on the track. The result so far has been awesome. We should be done with the song very soon and once it is done I will post it up!!!

Who Cares is doing some really cool stuff at the moment too. They are working on a track with Egyptian Lover which sounds amazing and should be released within in the next few months. Check out their myspace when you get a chance.

It is so funny, at the moment I have been listening to a lot of music from 79 to 83. I guess there are those stages that you go through musically when you have a craving for specific sounds. Right now Barrington Levy is getting a lot of ear time and the same goes for Johnny Osbourne. Rub a Dub style.

Speaking of which, if you didn't check out the RAS Trent sketch that Andy Samburg did on SNL, you are missing out.

Green Owl just posted the new website and it looks really good. The web address is www.greenowl.com. Check out the whole site, there are some pretty interesting things to check out, including an unreleased Dub Defender track.

I hope everyone is doing well and I will keep everyone up to date as much as possible with what I am up to musically.

Thanks,

Steven Jess Borth II

Decision Music Video Shoot

Hello all, when I was in Sacramento last Ryan Todd (Curious Robot Pictures) shot Dub Defender's first video for the song "Decision." We shot it at the Rock and Radio Museum/Nakamoto Productions downtown. Ryan used a Red camera and we shot it all in front of a green screen. The video should be done soon and it will be released as the first single off of Dub Defender's first EP "Sound Hits Them."

At the moment I am working on my version of Radiohead's "Reckoner" remix. It should be done by next week and Green Owl will be posting it as soon as it is ready.

Also on October 21st Green Owl will be holding thier first CMJ showcase. The party is going to be at Santos in Manhattan. Radioclit, The So So Glos, The London Souls and Dub Defender will all be performing.

If you have any questions feel free to email me at dubdefender@gmail.com

Thanks and have a good one.

A New Day

Hello,
I hope everyone is doing well.

Dub Defender is a project that has been a really great endeavor for so far. There is going to be an EP released very soon, so make sure you keep checking back for updates.

For the 7 song EP Doctor Echo has done the mixing/co production. If you haven't heard Doctor Echo yet, then you need to check out his work. He has a very unique style but has definite influence from the Dub pioneers (King Tubby, Scientist, Prince Jammy). Here is a link to FREE songs that he put up on his website.

The way it has worked out so far is that I work on the tracks and then after I am done with my end of the production I send it to Doctor Echo with the notes that I have made and then he does his magic.

I have been a huge fan of Dub music for some years now. It started when I was travelling with different bands over to England and I started to collect the Trojan Records Box Sets. In 1998 they released the "Dub Box Set" and from then on, I was hooked.

Thanks for checking out this blog. It is exciting for me to start a project devoted to one of my favorite styles of music. There will be many guests appearences on tracks and I will keep you all posted on what I am up to.

Below is a song that I just started working on this morning. Enjoy the track. It is not "done" yet...but I just couldn't wait to get some music out there into the world.

Have a good one. Email me if you have any questions. dubdefender@gmail.com

Thanks,
